Legal Question in Consumer Law in Hawaii

never delivered

I was asked by a colleague of mine in Japan to find certain brand name items. He had sent me in advance approximately USD$50,000 in cash with no contract. We were able to locate several vendors for the items we were searching for but the items delivered were either fake or were never delivered at all. My colleauge has several angry consumers waiting for their product. Now my colleague is asking for the USD$50,000 but the funds were already paid to the vendors. We have been unable to locate these vendors for the past 8 months. Furthermore, I was asked to sign a promissary note for the USD$50,000 from my colleague and I had a co-signer agree to this but recently found out that he wants to no longer be a co-signer. Now I have an attorney demanding payment from me based on monthly installments. What is my legal right?
