Legal Question in Consumer Law in Hawaii

no services rendered by this lawyer.

I hired a bankruptcy lawyer and paid her fees, she missed the oct.17 deadline and told me she would not raise her fees and continue with the process. I decided to wait until the end of the year to file, when i contacted her she said she had changed her policy and canceled nonresponding client and keep their fees. Of her $600 dollar fee, that I already paid, she would only credit $300 back to me if I'd refile. Her new fee was now $1000 + court fees,$1300 total. She said if I didn't refile with her she would not refund any of my money, period! So I resigned a contract and now owe $1000 to complete the process. Is this legal? Am I being RIPPED OFF! Can I take her to court and get my money back? I dont trust her anymore, period!

Take her to Small CLaims court for a refund, but 1st check with the Bar Association. THey may have a Fee Arbitration procedure which is faster and cheaper.
