Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Hawaii

I ordered a longboard surf board 10 years ago. Put a $150 down payment on it and since than I've been calling the shaper but no response in the last years. Finally, he got a hold of me and he was very embarressed so to make a long story short, he sent me the board 2 weeks ago and wants $390 for the glassing of the board. I see no problem in that but since than he's been calling me everyday asking about his money. Today, he was even mentioning small claims court. How many days legally do I have before I can send payment? I have no problem with sending him his money this but I want to see him on that end where I've been the last 10 years. I have a money order waiting to mail to him. can anyone advise me? thanks for your time.

Unless he gave you a due date for the $390, it is not past due. Of course, you should pay him within a reasonable time despite his making you wait 10 years. It will cost him about $120 just to file the small claims case to collect $390; not a wise economic choice especially given that he has not given you a due date. You are in default when it is past due, not before.
