Statue of limitations

While we were stationed in Hawaii in 1997 I opened a credit card account in my name. I defaulted on the account in 1998, and left Hawaii in 2000 as my husband got military orders to transfer. Now in 2007 , I am getting collection notices demanding payment for the credit card. I know statute of limitations is 4 years in Hawaii and the limitation clock stops when one is absent from the state. Are there provisions for Miliatry and miliatry dependants that would protect them from having the limiation clock stopped forever? I was never a resident of that state if that helps any.
