Collecting a lawsuit

Approximatley 4 years ago my daughter was injured at the Honolulu Zoo. We had filed a suit against the city, and we were told that it could possibly take up to 2 years for results. My husband was in the military and within the first year of the suit we moved to Michigan. We heard from our lawyer there only 1 time since then and have tried to contact him several times only to reach his answering machine. We leave our name and address each time, with no results. How can we find out the status on this lawsuit, and is there a time in which we have to claim it, if it was awarded to us? And is there a way that the lawyer could have kept the claim, and not let on to us that we won?

All those things are possible. That was the injury? How did it occur. My thought it that you should go to a lawyer who belongs to the American Trial Lawyers Association and who, preferably, is a sustaining memeber.
