Dear Inquirer:
Bankruptcy is a civil proceeding, such that a bankruptcy alone would not subject you to deportation. There is a another, very infrequently invoked provision that a person who becomes a "public charge" within five years of admission as an immigrant is deportable, but only if he cannot establish that the causes for his indigency arose aftre admission as an immigrant.
