Legal Question in Intellectual Property in Hawaii
I am thinking about starting my own karaoke business, but I would like to accompany the karaoke track with the original music videos + the karaoke lyrics. I have software that is able to download a music video and separate the music from the video. If I would like to go through with this, how do i ask for the music companies to permit this? From what I understand, if I purchase a song, I am permitted to play the song in public, but will this apply to the karaoke business as well?
Please help, thanks!

s a Franchise Attorney I can say this. Playing copyrighted music in any business requires permission from the copyright holders. Contact BMI and the other major copyright holders for details. They have licensing programs in place. Consult with a good business or franchise attorney in your area for specific advice.
