Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Hawaii

Tenant moved out with no notice

I rented out a bedroom in my home, the tenant did not pay upon moving in however informed me that all monies would be paid upon the first of the month (a week later). I had set out lease papers to be signed and then I went out of town. When I returned I realized the papers hadn't been signed and after entering the bedroom so was the tenant. A note was left stating that he had gotten homesick and flew home (to another state). I have the unsigned lease, the note, many emails before he moved in (the emails state when rent was due, how long he was going to stay, how much rent was, etc) and his car title/car registration. I want to know if there's anything I can do since it was only an oral lease since he did not sign the papers.

Re: Tenant moved out with no notice

It is not worth pursuing. Place the ad again and look for another tenant. It would cost you more in legal fees than you have to gain.
