Legal Question in Civil Rights Law in Idaho

Distruction of Personal Property by Law Officer

My 26 yr old son had a ticket for bridge jumping (when swimming in river) in Boise, Idaho. He was stopped for routine check sometime later. Police Officer went through his wallet and found US SSN card and a Canadian SIN (social insurance number) card. Son has dual citizenship but officer decided to distroy SIN without any inquiry. Have complete and legal proof of birthplace in British Columbia and legal proof of dual citizenship in US and Canada. What are his legal rights regarding wallet search and distruction of SIN card? Thank you.

Re: Distruction of Personal Property by Law Officer

I would lodge a complaint with the Canadian Embassy AND the local police, because the officer definitely crossed the line.

Local police have no business destroying papers issued by foreign governments, and as Canada soul searches it's relationship with the US, that's the sort of thing the government is going to care about.
