Legal Question in Consumer Law in Idaho

Internet purchase

Two weeks ago I agreed to purchased a puppy off the internet for $580.00 from a man in Pennsylvania. I sent the money via moneygram and they said they would send it that night or the next day. The next day they said they wanted $200.00 more for other expenses. I would not send it them more money and they would not send the dog. We have been trying to work this out for the last two weeks and nothing is happening. I have sent them an email with my intent to sue for the money due to me. They replied saying I was not in duress when sending the money and they did not force me to send them the money so they will get around to this issue and returning my money at their earliest convienence. What can I do??

Re: Internet purchase

The first question is whether or not the $580 included shipping and handling. If it didn't then, you can expect to pay that.

On the other hand, you don't want to send good money after bad or continue to do business with someone so quick to tell you to shove off.

While you know where they are, file a fraud complaint, a local small claims suit and get law enforcement involved IMMEDIATELY.

Even though people have a way of fading into the ether, which would make hiring an attorney a waste over $580, you can check to see whether they are reputable (now that you've sent your money) and find other ways of making sure you CAN get your money back.

Re: Internet purchase

A strongly worded letter from an attorney advising them of the prohibition of interstate fraud via the Internet may prmot action.

Mr. Anderson is correct; attorney letters can work. At the same time you can also report them to the BBB, PA Attorney General, their local police, ripoffreport.com, and there are others. Who you send the attorney letter to is also important. Feel free to contact me regarding this; I've dealt with it often and from multiple perspectives because I've represented all four interested parties in your issue.
