Legal Question in Criminal Law in Idaho
The police stole our property
My ex-boyfriend lived with my family and I and he ended up stealing anything worth value, to pawn. He signed a report saying he did steal our property, but then the police detective did not do her job properly and now we do not get all of our stuff back. One thing in particular was a mountain bike, I did not know what speed it was and everyone including one of the cops told me to say it was an 18-speed. I also had the bike registered at the police department, so it had a serial number saying it belonged to me. But it was only a 10-speed and since I gave the wrong discription I do not get my bike back.
What can I do as a victim of this crime to get my stuff back?

Re: The police stole our property
file a written request with the chief of police including the names of the officers who told you to lie, which you should not have done. Include a summary of the facts and request the property be returned to you. If the case is pending, which you can check by talking to the prosecuting attorney handling the case, the property cannot be released.
