Legal Question in Intellectual Property in Idaho

My boyfriend's parents ran a background check on me and are using my past sexual history (which I have no idea how they got) to get him to break up with me. They say if he doesn't he's not welcome in their lives. Can I take legal action against them for invasion of privacy or defamation of character, and can my boyfriend pursue a case for coersion?
