Early lease termination

I lived in an apartment for 1 1/2 mos and my mom got sick, brain tumor. I needed to go back home, so I went to the apartment manager. She told me not to worry, Just clean the apartment, give her back the keys and that was it. This was May 17, August 16 I recieve a letter saying I owe 4,300 in 30 days or I'll be sued. The manager who let me out has since left the company, what can I do?

I am assuming that you didn't get her approval in writing, signed by her before she left the company. If you can find her have her call the company and tell them that she authorized it.
