Legal Question in Legal Ethics in Idaho

Cost to Copy Medical File and send to Patient's Home Address

I called and requested that my and my husband's medical files (test and results) be copied and sent to our home address. A lady at the doctor's office told us it would cost $0.82 per page for a certain number of pages and the cost would go up after that number of pages. She said she would figure it up and then we could give her her credit card number before she copied our files and mailed them. Is this right under Georgia law?

This is a ridiculous amount of money to charge for copy services. You can find out what local attorneys are charged and then offer to pay that amount. Your medical records cannot be held hostage, so you may want to simply call a local attorney and find out what the going rate is. The other possibility is to have your doctor turn over the files to another doctor, and get the copes from there.
