Re: illegal to leave car running

couldn't find any statutes that say leaving a running vehicle is against the law. However, it may well be probable cause for an officer to check the running vehicle to make sure that it is not a danger to anyone or to check to see whether the driver is intoxicated.

An officer has the right and the duty to check and see whether you are violating the law by maintaining insurance, that you have registered the vehicle. license required is Idaho Code section 49-301; proof of insurance must be in vehicle-Id Code sect: 49-1232; registration-Id code 49-427 requires registration card in car and requires checking by officer.

These statutes don't require these things unless the vehicle is being driven on the roads and highways, i.e. operated.
