Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in Idaho
Was to get inheritance at age 25, its disappeared
My husband is 26 yrs old. All throughout his childhood he was told that he would be the sole beneficiary to his grandparent's estate. He is the only grandchild. The grandfather died and several years later the grandmother died (in Idaho)and my husband was only 15 years old I think at the time. My husband's mother told him that he would get his inheritance (a HUGE sum, in the millions...) when he turned age 25. My husband turned age 25 and his mother told him ''Gee, I don't know what happened to the money. I guess it was stolen.'' Does my husband have any way of finding out if he was indeed the sole beneficiary, and if so, where is the money??? My husband has always been a California resident, and the grandparents Idaho residents. Thank you.

The jurisdiction will depend on the residence of the trustee or custodian (depends on how the money was held, in trust or in a less formal "custodianship"), so consult with an attorney soon in the state where the trustee/custodian resided. He has a right to accountings for the money, and to find out exactly what happened, so he can see whether he's owed money/property.

Your husband should take immediate steps to investigate this situation. It is quite possible that his grandfather's will is on public record in Idaho. It is also possible that his grandmother's will is on public record. These would be good places to start. Legal counsel can advise you on what rights a beneficiary might have against a guardian, custodian, or trustee.
