Re: Witness to aWill
The only requirements for being a witness to a will in Illinois are: (1) that you be an adult (over the age of 18); and (2) that you be disinterested (that is, you are not someone receiving property under the will). When you witness a will, all you are affirming is that you saw your Boss sign the will. Depending on how the will is written, it may also include language stating that your Boss appeared to you to understand the effect of signing the will (that is, making a disposition of property after death). You do not need to understand the contents of the will or the specific plan for distributing the property of your Boss (or even read the contents of the will) to serve as a witness.
