Legal Question in Disability Law in Illinois

Business Will Not Provide Service to Wheelchair Bound

I am an amputee, wheelchair bound. I entered a salon to have a manicure. I was told by the manager that "we do not do handicap people" and they refused to give me a manicure. I was humiliated and denied service that was being performed on non-handicapped clients. What course of action can I take? What would this case be worth if pursued?

Re: Business Will Not Provide Service to Wheelchair Bound

From the situation that you desribed it sounds like you have a good case for discrimination. I would contact your local county bar association, or state bar association if there isn't one in your county, and ask for a referral to a lawyer who handles ADA cases in your area. They should be able to give you a couple of names. Most lawyers offer free consultations so you can at least talk with a lawyer in your area to find out if you have a good case worth taking to court. Good luck. I apologize for the delay in replying to your message it was received today by my office.

Sincerely,

John Hayes, Esq.
