Legal Question in Administrative Law in Illinois

Use of Sick Days at my job

I have many sick days built up in my bank of time off. I need to take a couple of days of sick time for an outpatient surgery procedure. It is a procedure that takes place on one day and then you go back a couple of days later and have another procedure. My Admin Assit to the Executive Director wants to meet with me about the surgery. Do I have to disclose what this procedure is for? My company tends to be inflexible and I really don't want them to know what I am doing. It is an infertility surgery and I don't really want them to know about it because it is personal. Am I required to advise them what the procedure is? They want me to do it on the weekend. What surgeon works on the weekend? I am just trying to get the facts before I disclose anything to my work. Thanks for your help!

Re: Use of Sick Days at my job

Hello. You have a right to privacy. All the

job needs to know is that you are having surgery.

Don't make any statements beyond that. At least,

this is what I suggests. In my opinion, you are

well within your rights to consider certain

information about yourself out of bounds as to

your employment. I will be happy to answer any

additional questions you might have.
