Legal Question in Appeals and Writs in Illinois

Do I have to file an Appeal using an attorney, or can I file an Appeal myself as

The Chicago Dept. of Health came into the cafe and wrote that we did not have our ''Pest Control'' log book at the cafe. My only employee gave the inspector the ''log book''. Said she would abate it in 5 days when she came back, because she couldn't mark out. We've been on contract for almost seven years with our Pest Control Co. I went to the first hearing and they said that since the first report stated we did not have pest control, I would have to plead quilty that we did not conform to Illinois Law but they could reduce the fine. I showed them the ''5 day later'' return visit.I was told that that the abatement didn't mean anything.I did not plead guilty. The Judge said go to the Daley Center 6th Fl. and file within 35 days. I did. At this Administrative Hearing, the City wanted to make an oral motion to dismiss because apparantly I have to be a lawyer to file for my own cafe. The Judge then gave me a Specification of Errors document from the First Municipal District and told me to fill that out as soon as I receive the City's Motion to Dismiss.

If your business is a corporation, then you must have an attorney to file the appeal in court. Corporations (or LLC's) can only be represented in court by a licensed attorney. If you have further questions please call 630-257-8280.
