Legal Question in Banking Law in Illinois
credit information
I was trying to finance a car through my credit union. Because of past credit problems they were requiring %30 down, therefore, the buyer's order was taking a long time. The auto dealership called the Credit Union(they do not have a collaboration with each other), and asked what was taking so long and whether we had credit issues. The Credit Union told them about our past crdeit problems, that we were looking at other cars, and the we were not able to put %30 down. The dealership then sent me a snotty e-mail that I have no right (which I know I do) to be inquiring about other cars and also made a reamrk about our credit scores. I immediately called the credit union and spoke with the lady. She admitted to all of it and felt ''really bad'' and said she has been doing this ofr 25 years and she should know better. The dealership also told me I have ''burned bridges'' from buying a car in my town. Do I have any rights? Did the dealership have the right to even inquire? Did the Credit Union have the right to give out my personal credit history without my consent? Thank you for your time.

Re: credit information
You may very well have a claim under the Fair Debt Reporting Act.
