Re: Bankruptcy

An indivudal may file a Chapter 7 or Chapter 13 by himself. Office supply stores have petitions and schedules you can complete. Also, at www.ilnb.uscourts.gov you can find bankruptcy petitions and schedules to download.

Be aware that bankruptcy is a quite complicated process and your friend might jeopardize his home, car and other possessions by filing himself.

Sometimes it is worth having an attorney when filing for bankruptcy. Many firms such as my own charge a set fee based upon the number of creditors and the complexity of the case.

If your friend finds that filing himself is to arduous a task, then have him call (847) 223-4410. Perhaps we can work something out.

Very truly yours,

Re: Bankruptcy

I agree w/what Mr. Hunt said, i.e., that an individual need not retain an attorney to file for bankrupcty. I add, however, that by you offering to "help him out," you may be deemed to be rendering legal advice, something only a licensed attorney may do. In other words, you do not want to be in a position of practicing law without a license.
