Legal Question in Bankruptcy in Illinois

Contracts with companies that go bankrupt and close

I entered into a contract with a furniture company in 99 for the payment of furniture. When I went in to make a payment a few months later they said they cannot take payments at the moment they went bankrupt and closed all stores. I never heard from them again until 3 days ago they sent me a letter stating that they needed a payment now. Am I liable to pay them when they refused payment before and havent contacted me in 5 years? They also have listed on my credit report that I was delinquent and that I owe them and that was never the case.

Re: Contracts with companies that go bankrupt and close

At the moment, I can't tell you with any specificity as to whether you are liable or not, as you have not provided precise dates, and you have not provided a copy of the original contract for examination. Might I suggest that you make an appointment with a legal professional near your home, and seek advice in that manner?
