Legal Question in Bankruptcy in Illinois

Debts left behind

Hello,

I lived in US for 5 years.Unfortunately, for that period I got deep in debt - 65-70K. A couple of months ago I moved back to Europe, and left most of the debt unpaid behind. I know it's a bad thing, but what is done is done. Now my question is, could my creditors come after me here and can they have judgment against me outside of US? is the estate I own out of the States at any risk? What should I do and what I shouldn't do? thanks for your answer.

Re: Debts left behind

I think that you should have filed for bankruptcy protection before leaving for "Europe". Although I am not sure, I believe that there is a mechanism for registering foreign judgment with EU nations, and then collecting. YOU SHOULD IMMEDIATELY CONTACT A LAWYER AND CONSULT WITH HIM/HER ABOUT THIS. GOOD LUCK!
