Legal Question in Bankruptcy in Illinois
Length of time a chapter 7 is on credit report
April, 1996 I filed a chapter 7 bankruptcy. I want to know how long the bankruptcy stays on my credit report. Can I also be denied employment with a bank. I have been denied a bank teller position because of the bankruptcy.

In answer to your first question a bankruptcy may remain on your credit report for up to 10 years.
Second, an individual cannot be discriminated against for filing for bankruptcy protection. If they denied you a position based solely on your filing for bankruptcy, then this could be a serious problem.
I would like to speak with you further regarding this problem. Please call my office tomorrow to discuss (312) 236-9906.
