Legal Question in Bankruptcy in Illinois
I just received bankrupcy papers from my ex-husband's attorney. My divorce papers say child support is exempt from bankrupcy. I am listed, however as a "creditor of the debtor". Besides not including his 2nd job in his income, he is claiming 4 people in his household. The kids live with me. Should I go to the Meeting of Creditors?

In a chapter 7 bankruptcy, you may attend the Meeting of Creditors; most creditors do not attend. If you wish to correct or object to information provided in the petition, you may attend. Child support is an obligation which will not be discharged in bankruptcy so you may have little reason to attend.
