Can you stop bankruptcy proceedings?

Me and my husband filed bankruptcy on the amount of Approx. $47,000 which the amount included a leased vehicle. We had our first creditors meeting today, we failed to appear. We want to stop our proceedings, all creditors have been notified. How do we get out this mess?

Your case needs to be dismissed. There are a couple of normal ways in which this happens. First, you or your attorney can file a motion to dismiss. There are specific procedures that need to be followed in order to give proper notice to creditors and other parties.

Second, the Trustee may dismiss the case. However do not count on it. Whether a Trustee dismisses your case depends on what assets were in your possession when you filed.
