Legal Question in Bankruptcy in Illinois
Will my husband's bankruptcy filing affect my credit?
My husband is thinking of filing bankruptcy(not sure which chapter, if it matters) separately in IL. As we have only been married one month we have no joint property or accounts of any kind, nor am I a co-signer. We even live in different states (I in NY, he in IL.) We both, however, own separate property acquired prior to our marriage. Even so, he is very concerned that his filing will ruin my excellent credit or effect me adversely in the future. Is this possible? He has suggested annulment, separation or divorce to eliminate any possibility of involving me. How else can I protect myself?
Thanks much.

Re: Will my husband's bankruptcy filing affect my credit?
If your husband files individually it will not hurt your credit rating. Even if you co-signed a loan for him it would not hurt your credit rating.
Tell him to give me a call to set up an appointment. My primary area of practice is in bankruptcy. I practice throughout Illinois. He can call me at (847) 223-4410.
