Legal Question in Business Law in Illinois
I bought a coffee from a local grocery store. Upon taking a sip, I spit out a cockroach. There was a witness, possible video footage and they compensated me with a $20 gift card. If I wanted to follow through with a law suit, what do I look for and what kind of situations am I up against?

Your issue is how have you been damaged and in what way can you document the damage. For example, if you now had nightmares and sought medical care in order, or, every time you had a drink of store bought coffee you threw up, you would have compensable damages.
As a Franchise Attorney I agree with the other attorney answer. It comes down to a "what are your damages?" question. Most likely, psychological problems whenever you buy or try to drink coffee is compensable. But have you sought medical help or counseling for this? Consult with a good business or franchise attorney in your area for specific advice.
