Is it against the law to post an internal email on a public message board.

Depends. If there is proprietary information and you release it to the public, of course. If you signed a document in which you promised not to, then you may be liable in civil court. If you did this in the process of committing a crime, such as harassment, or blackmail, it is a criminal offense. My advice, do not post it. I am not sure of the upside, and there is plenty on the downside.
