Legal Question in Business Law in Illinois
Can a former business "partner" hold personal property ransome? I verbally agreed to go into business with this woman, designing gift baskets. I told her from day 1 I did not have the finances to "do alot". She kept pushing me to get more designs done for the website - I told her I could not afford to order any more items. Her "finance" gave me a copy of his credit card and said to purchase $500 of what I need (I over spent by $250 due to the fact she still needed more items and more photos). Every month went by and no website - she was supposed to help me at trade shows - she never showed - I paid for all of the entry fees. She is now holding some of my personal property along with all of the items I paid for (personally) because she claims I owe her $250. I have paid for every ounce of product in there - she has paid for NOTHING... do I have recourse?

This is somewhat unclear. However, if she is holding property that you own and caused you to lose money at the trade shows, it sounds as if you have a small claims case.
