Legal Question in Business Law in Illinois
can a city inspector keep mefrom turning off my electricity
a seperate business entity inside of my business (same address except for suite #). The electricity is in my name but the other business is connected to my breaker box. i am the only one who pays the bill and there is nothing in lease concerning sharing electricity. building inspeector says I can not turn off breakers that provide elec. to their business. Can I turn their breakers off, and if I do what can the village do to me?

Re: can a city inspector keep mefrom turning off my electricity
If you are turning off their electricity to try to evict the tenant, this may be considered constructive eviction, and it is unlawful. If you are turning off the breakers to make reasonable repairs, as long as you provide adequate notice, if possible, to the tenant, that should be fine. I am guessing there is something more going on here, since you are in discussions with the city inspector about it. I would strongly suggest you contact an attorney for guidance.

The tenant inside owes you for the electricity, but I doubt you can turn it off, since they rely on it for their business.
