Legal Question in Business Law in Illinois

Closed Out Business

Sir,

I used to have a Business in Michigan which is closed last year. I live in Illinois.

I have to pay Penalty and Interest for MI. Dept Of Treasury in terms of Taxes. I filed the Taxes late. So they put penalty and Interest to it. If I don't pay this amount can they put a lean to my house in Illinois or to my Salary? I don't have any Property in MI.

Re: Closed Out Business

The State of Michigan is like any other creditor. If they seek to recover the debt in Illinois, they will have the same rights of any other creditor and will be subject to the same limitations and procedures. States can and do go after taxpayers outside the state's own geographic boundaries.

Yes, that could include liens on your assets and garnishment of your wages.
