Legal Question in Business Law in Illinois
Can companies charge customers for their recklessness?
My gas company billed me from Jan till now at a amount under $100
Now they billed me $500 bill saying i owe this from last months. They said that the meter reading was down poorly by their employees and it was their recklessness. Is this right?

If you used the gas, then you have to pay for it. The company will probably agree to a payment plan if coming up with the money all at once would be hard for you. But the fact that it under-billed you in the past does not mean it must forfeit the additional income it earned.
The other attorney is right on point. Besides a payment plan, you should make sure the $500 bill is absolutely correct and not just someone's guess of what the gas usage really was. Consult with a good business attorney in your area for specific advice.
