Legal Question in Business Law in Illinois
Employment customer question.
hi there,
I was wondering - I was working for a company here in central illinois. I was recently let go when I came back from vacation. This is a small family business consisting of about 6 employees (4 of which are on payroll). This was a computer repair and networking shop that provides onsite services.
I have a customer there that I had brought onboard as I had worked for her previously before working for this company. She had recently contacted me and asked for some help with her laptop as she had contracted a virus and it was causing all sorts of issues. I helped her clean up the system and spent a while with her restoring her software so that she could use it for business.
Later I was contacted by my previous manager who was upset that I had done work for her, and wanted me to provide all communications with her to the business. I was threatened with litigation regarding this matter.
I had known this woman for about 6 years roughly and performed work for her while I worked for this company - and prior to working for them. I have provided service to her since leaving the company.
Can you tell me any information that I will need to know regarding this situation?

Re: Employment customer question.
There's a lot of information that you haven't provided that might be relevant. First, what's the basis your former employer is claiming as a threat for litigation? Were you an employee or an independent contractor? Have you ever signed any sort of non-compete agreement with your former employer? Did you have some kind of arrangement with your former company with respect to bringing in business?
