What do file appearance or jury demand answer or plead means

If you are the defendant in a lawsuit, answer or otherwise plead means that the court is giving you a time period in which to either answer the allegations stated against you in the complaint, or to file a motion to dismiss the case.
Filing an appearance is when you or your attorney files a piece of paper in which you appear on the record for the first time.
Jury demand is what it sounds like. You can demand a jury.
