Legal Question in Business Law in Illinois
Free Gambling
I'm wondering if it's legal in the U.S. to create a website where users can win money/prizes by competing against others in games, but where it is free to play. You never have to pay anything, but you can win money. Is this legal? I know the U.S. is shutting down gambling website, but is this classified as ''gambling''?
Thanks

Re: Free Gambling
Most states define gambling as something where a prize of some sort is the award for winning a game involving chance. Whether or not you pay to play does not necessarily matter. If you are considering setting up such a website, you need to find an attorney that specializes in gaming law to help you.
