Legal Question in Business Law in Illinois
I gave a business check to a subcontractor and because of some problems with the job, I stopped payment on the check almost immediately after he left my office.
The subcontractor took the check to a currency exchange and the currency exchange cashed the check without verifying funds at the bank or with us.
The currency exchange has been calling us and our attorney saying we now owe them the money.
Ive talk with my bank and they say we are covered legally.
I feel I'm not responsible for the currency exchange cashing the check.
Please help me with this question.
