Legal Question in Business Law in Illinois
My husband and I have been separated for over 4 years. Domestic violence and I have been afraid to ask for divorce. He received an inheritance and asked me to put it into my account. He said he wanted to give me 1/2. He then advised me he didn't pay the IRS for outstanding problem before we were married. I now find out I can be held responsible for evading the IRS. I contacted a place to help settle the IRS debt and they advised me they couldn't help me. My question is, how can I pay this debt so I am not held responsible? If I just cash this check and give him the money, he is not going to pay it, then the IRS will come after me. Why can't I just call the IRS and pay it? I am not understanding
