Legal Question in Business Law in Illinois
In Illinois,a company I did some work form said I have to complete a 1099 form so that the could pay me. My services rendered came out to $2500. I told them that since I have my own business and am not considered their employee it wasn't necessary to complete the form.
Are they correct?
Thanks,
Desmond D.

As a franchise attorney I can say a 1099 is used to report independent contractor income paid. Unless your business is a corporation, they must give you a 1099 and thus their request that you complete this form with your taxpayer information. Consult with a good business or franchise attorney in your area for specific advice.
