Legal Question in Business Law in Illinois

What are the licensing requirements for personal trainers and aerobic instructors in Illinois? Is a four year degree required and is only having online certification legal?

If you go to the Illinois Department of Professional Regulation's wesite at http://www.idfpr.com/DPRdefault.asp and click on the "Select a Profession to View" you should note that neither of these fields appear to require licensing. Of course having academic training or some training certification helps getting you going, but it may depend on the prospective employer's requirements, or the prospective facility's minimum requirements (which can vary widely), and if it is in a medical setting where aerobics are part of some kind of OT or PT program, then the requisite OT or PT licensing (with education and training components) would be required. So a lot may depend on where and for whom you might provide these services. In addition, certain employers or facilities may require you to carry insurance to cover them and you in the event you injure anyone on their premises. Further, if you set yourself up as a business you may need business licensing, etc.
