How do you start a non-profit organization?

As suggested by one of my colleagues, you are best off hiring an attorney who has handled these matters before, so as to avoid problems. The federal tax exemption filing is quite involved. See my website for more information.

The first thing that you so is hire an attorney. He or she will then file the appropriate paper work with the Secretary of State. You will have to provide him with a purpose and a projected budget for a number of years so that the appropriate papers can be fuiled with the Internal Revenue Service and the Illinois Department of Revenue.
