Legal Question in Business Law in Illinois

personal responsibility for payment of new power pole

Live in rural area. Power poles along our property are 100+ years old. My husband bumped one with a bulldozer, making it lean more than it already was. called illinois power, didn't want it to fall. Man from IP stated pole was rotted inside and needed replaced. illinois power replaced pole. about month later, we received bill for over $1600 for pole. do we have to pay for it? what happens if we don't pay....can illinois power shut off our power? or do they sue us or go through collection agency? can they charge cumulative interest on balance they say we owe them? I called and try to explain that pole was in need of replacement. even told them that the new pole is already leaning because they put it in the ''old'' hole, didn't receive much cooperation. thank you for your help.
