Legal Question in Business Law in Illinois
I'm in the process of starting a small e-commerce website. My partner and I were discussing the possibly of donating 50% of our net profits to charitable organizations we support. We would obviously want to state clearly on the site that we are a for-profit company donating 50% of our net profit. Aside from making our intent clear, are there any other legal pitfalls we should be aware of? If it makes any difference, our business is currently a registered DBA in the state of Illinois and we have no affiliation with the charities we would be donating to.

You had better make sure that you always do in actuality donate at least 50%. Otherwise, you run the risk of a lawsuit or an investigation.
As a Franchise Attorney I agree with the other attorney answer. The whole point is adequate disclosure and follow through. Consult with a good business or franchise attorney in your area for specific advice.
