Legal Question in Business Law in Illinois
recording meetings
An employee remixed a recording of a staff meeting by taking the manager's words out of context and setting them to music. We want to fire the employee. Was the employee's action illegal or simply unethical?

Re: recording meetings
It was not illegal in terms of breaking a law and ethics is a matter of perspective. Absent contractual, company policy or manuals stating to the contrary or collective bargaining agreements, or descrimination, Illinois is an employment at will state, you can probably fire him anyway. You should contact counsel to review the entire situation.
