Legal Question in Business Law in Illinois

Removing name from Corporation

I had a friend talk me into signing onto his company which collects money for handicap children. I am not sure if he is very trustworthy, and now I want my name removed as an officer of said company. He tells me that as soon as he finds someone to take my place, he will remove me. What can I do to expedite this. I have not participated in anything regarding this company. I think he used my name for credibility only. Please help

Send a letter of resignation by certified mail. Also, notify the Secretary of Stat if you are on any paperwork recorded with the state.

In addition to what Mr. Padove stated, send a copy of your resignation letter to any insurance carriers the company has.

No one can force you to continue serving as an officer of any organization. If this friend continues to use your name after you've sent (and he's received) the letter indicating you are withdrawing, you will need to send a cease and desist letter. It's best to have an attorney help you with that.
