Legal Question in Business Law in Illinois
Hi,
I own a small business and am struggling. I recently decided I would not be able to stay open when the owner of the building suggested I contact a local competitor to see if they wanted to buy me out. I previously worked for this competitor so I contacted their RM. When I got a response it said that when they saw the store numbers they were not interested in my location. I had recently given the owner of the building my reports showing my revenue so they would be able to tell how much the business was making since my rent was based off of my revenue. He apparently gave my numbers to this competition. Is that legal to do this?

Many commercial leases have a confidentiality provision for this type of information. If your lease has such a provision, your landlord may be in breach of the lease.
