Legal Question in Business Law in Illinois
my son broke a vase in a retail store ,and the store is trying to make me pay over the amount the vase is worth.am i legally bound to that even though .they don't have any signs posted YOYU BREAK IT YOU BUY IT?

There is no law stating that such a sign is necessary. On the other hand, why was the vase in a position where your son could break it? Was it too close to the end? If their placement caused or was a contributing factor, negotiate.
The other attorney is right on point here. Sign or not sign, if you break something and it's your fault, you're on the hook to buy it. If the store was negligent, that can be a negotiating factor. The most important thing to a retail store is continued patronage. Consult with an attorney in your area for specifics.
