Legal Question in Business Law in Illinois

I started working as a consultant for a property preservation company. Its 2 months later and they are refusing to pay. The contract is very poorly written but it says i make 65% of the total invoice. Through working with them i know that they are not really giving me that it is more like less than 50%. I asked for a copy of the invoice but they gave me a sheet that had obviously been falsified. they are refusing to pay me know for things from a month ago they are saying i did not complete ontime. Its not true and they never told me if it was wrong and gave to time to correct it. They are just stealing my money and lying to HUD and Fannie Mae. What should I do. I dont have much money because they havent paid me so i cant get a lawyer.

As a franchise attorney I can say this. If the amount owing is within the jurisdictional limit of small claims court, then you should consider suing them in that forum. Consult with a good business or franchise attorney in your area for specific advice.

What does your contract say about timeliness and notices, etc.? What does lying to HUD and Fannie Mae have to do with the short paymenmts to you or your job performance?

Obviously, your contract is important. Does it give you the right to place a lien on the property involved?
