Legal Question in Business Law in Illinois
What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? Illinois
I bartered for our nonprofit to get auto repairs in trade for a website. I asked the repair shop to provide a receipt so that our web designer would have a gauge to perform the website work and provide an equal/fair trade.
The repair shop provided me with a receipt for the repairs and 1. Included the cost for something they didn't fix and 2. Included a charge for taking photos of the vehicle they sold to the organization (not part of the barter) and emailing them to me. (6 photos @ $182.00)
I pretty much know to disregard number 1, but my question is, can they actually charge for labor to take photos of a vehicle he's trying to sell?
Thanks.

Again, even if you say it was to be all barter and no cash, with nothing in writing to confirm your version of the "deal" they could easily say it was mix and match, which their paperwork seems to suggest. If there was no meeting of the minds, there may have been no real deal, but you have to decide if you want to risk a small claims lawsuit to prove it one way or the other. This is the kind of thing you work out with the other party directly; litigation would most likely be cost ineffective and not give you what you wanted at all.
